You might have first heard of Bel Air Insurance if you drove a cab in 1955 in Montreal. In fact, the name is derived from the popular car at the time – the Chevrolet Bel Air. In 1989, Commassur Inc. was bought by ING Group and by 1996, the company rebranded to belairdirect and launched in Ontario and Quebec. One year later, the company became the first in North America to offer car insurance for purchase online.
