About This Card
The MBNA Rewards Mastercard is a rewards card with no annual fee that allows you to collect points with every dollar you spend on eligible purchases. Cardholders receive one point per dollar charged to the card, and have the option of redeeming points for cash back, travel expenses, gift cards and more.
MBNA cardholders will receive 5,000 bonus points ($25 in cash back value) after your first eligible purchase within the first 90 days of opening your account. You’ll get another 5,000 points ($25 in cash back value) if you enroll to receive e-statements instead of paper within the first 90 days.
The welcome offer is sure to hook you on the idea of earning points if you’re new to rewards programs. After you collect your bonus points, you’ll continue to earn points at the rate of 1 point for every $1 spent, and 2 points for every $1 spent on groceries, dining out, digital media, memberships, and household utility purchases. You earn 1 point for every $1 spent on everything else.
Be aware, however, of the annual spending cap that applies to purchases in the special categories. You only earn 2 points per dollar on groceries, dining out, digital media, memberships, and household utility purchases until you hit a maximum spend of $10,000 annually in the applicable category. Then, put your points towards travel or the brand name merchandise available through the MBNA Rewards catalogue.
You also have the option of redeeming them for gift cards from participating retailers. If that isn't appealing, you can ask for cash back. You can even make charitable donations with points — no need to redeem them into cash first.
And that's not all. Every year, you get Birthday Bonus Points. The points are equal to 10% of the total number of points earned over the 12 months before the month of your birthday (up to a maximum of 10,000 points).
Conveniently, the MBNA Rewards Mastercard is accepted at more than one million ATMs worldwide, and offers a lower interest charge of 2.5% on all foreign currency conversions, making it an ideal option for travellers.
As for interest, the MBNA Rewards Mastercard charges 20.99% APR on purchases, 20.99% APR on balance transfers, and 20.99% APR on cash advances.
