How You Can Afford to Chase Your Dreams
By: Martin Dasko on December 9, 2015Do you want to chase a wild dream? Is there an outlandish idea out there that you would love to chase?
We all know that we’re supposed to be realistic and do the adult thing. Sure, you should consider buying a home and moving up in your job. However, at some point you have to do something that makes you feel alive. You can’t always do what you’re “supposed” to do. There’s something fun about breaking the rules and stepping out of your comfort zone.
In 2013, I finally stopped making excuses and chased my dream of becoming a pro wrestler. Since I’ve had many readers ask about this, I wanted to share how I began on this wild journey, and how you can afford to chase your dreams, too.
Step 1: Remember that you don’t have to go all in
Here’s the thing that nobody really tells you online. You don’t have to quit your job or do something totally extreme to follow a dream of yours. I kept everything as normal when I started pro wrestling. I just added a new class that I would attend three times weekly to my schedule. Nobody’s forcing you to live in a trailer or to give up on life. You can start off slowly and then build up as you gain more confidence. This is the best way to make sure you can afford to chase your dreams, since you are still be responsible about your finances.
Step 2: Take care of your finances
We all know that saving money gets boring. I got bored and was fed up with always saving. I wanted to invest in myself. I already spent money on college. I knew that it was time that I did something for myself. I finally invested in pro wrestling training and everything that goes along with it (eating steak more often to get bigger muscles).
If you want to save money, you need to have a goal and purpose or else it gets really stale. When you have a purpose for your money, it’s easier to do what needs doing – and it keeps you motivated to chase your dreams.
Step 3: Create a way
There’s always a way. If I can find a way to pro wrestle as a smaller guy, you can find a way to learn to skateboard or play the guitar.
You need to find reason why you can make it happen. Don’t worry about every reason as to why you can’t do it. Once your finances are in order, and you can afford to chase your dreams, you’ll have a better chance of creating a way to make it work for you.
Step 4: Build your support system
When I self-published a book, I asked other authors for advice. When I started wrestling, I asked older wrestlers for feedback. You need to have a support system in place so that you know who has your back.
Step 5: Small step
I’m not as charismatic as The Rock or as jacked as Goldberg, but I know that I can work on both qualities one day at a time. It’s all about the small steps and getting started when you want to afford to chase your dreams – and accomplish them.
You can’t always worry about the best credit card and new tip to save money. Keep your youthful imagination alive by feeding it. Don’t be afraid of that wild dream. You never know where life will take you. Good luck!
